# micIsInUse on Mobile SDK

> Free the microphone when another app holds it and Mobile SDK cannot record

`micIsInUse` is a `SukiAmbientCoreError` case. Another app is using the microphone, so Mobile SDK cannot start or resume recording.

| Error id | Description |
| :- | :- |
| `micIsInUse` | Another app is using the microphone. Cannot start or resume recording |
| `needMicrophonePermissionRecording` | Microphone permission has not been granted |
| `unableToStartRecording` | Audio engine setup failed (no inputs, `AVAudioSession` error, and similar) |

## Catch and recover

Match the case name in your `SukiAmbientCoreError` handler:

} catch let error as SukiAmbientCoreError {
  switch error {
  case .micIsInUse:

  case .needMicrophonePermissionRecording:
    // Request microphone permission, then retry
    break
  default:
    break
  }
}
```

## Fix

    Handle `micIsInUse` in your error UI with a clear message and a retry path.

  <Step title="Free the Microphone">
    Ask the clinician to end the other app's audio (for example a phone call or another app holding the mic), then retry start or resume.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check Permission and Engine Errors">
